As much as possible, CBC competitions use the age group categories and
the associated competition specifications provided by the IBU. For
additional details, refer to the IBU "Event and Competition Rules" and the
"Age groups for classes of competitors," both of which are available on the
IBU web site
The USBA has published some guidelines for
competitors under the age of 17.

Please note the guidelines for .22 use below.
Masters distances follow the
USBA guidelines.
CBC-specific notes:
-
All competitors under the age of 11 use pellet rifles and 10 meter targets.
-
Competitors age 11-12 who have their own .22 rifle, may race using a .22 rifle.
See the Safety Certification clinic page for more information.
-
Competitors using club .22 rifles must be 13 as of 12/31 of the winter competition season.
See the Safety Certification clinic page for more information.
- In the past, the Junior and Youth categories
(ages 17-18 and 19-20) have been combined into one category for each gender
for State and Class Championships.
- CBC events typically offer a single 12-and-under category, although
event organizers have the option of providing a separate 10-and-under
age group in the results.
Only the combined 12-and-under category is offered for each gender for
the State and Class Championships.
- Only a 150m penalty loop is available at the Snow Mountain Ranch venue, so
the shorter penalty loops indicated for some formats are purely academic
at SMR events (all competitors ski 150m penalty loops).
